Pole Position Awesomeness!

Monday, May 22nd, 2017

We just got this one in from a friend that we used to work with and can’t wait to get it to 100% again. The electronics are all ready to go after a few hours of work….. now we just have to put the cabinet back together! Pole Position is a game that still holds up amazingly well despite being 35 years old now. This machine is the harder to find cockpit version and it comes with a Pole Position II boardset which has 4 tracks to pick from instead of just 1. We feel like we are ready to take the actual Fuji race track in Japan!

Welcome to Xenon!

Friday, May 5th, 2017

Here are a couple of pictures of another Xenon that we brought back to life. The power was shot to the point of the traces coming off of the board, the solenoid driver board had so many bad parts on it, we lost track….. and finally, the sound card was shot. We went through and replaced the components this time rather that fixing them due to the extent of the issues and it turned out fabulous! After all was said and done with our repairs, we only had to exchange 3 bulbs in the entire machine! Gorgeous cabinet and playfield too!!!

Side Project Pacman Coolness

Wednesday, April 19th, 2017

We had the opportunity to work on a Pacman cocktail arcade game and it turned out really nice! The power supply, main PCB (Turbo Pac-man version) and CRT all had issues. We fixed the issues and cleaned it up and got Pacman eating again! Here are some pics.

Stern’s Pabst Can Crusher Pinball is Awesome!

Monday, April 3rd, 2017

We had the privilege of working on a rare Pabst Can Crusher Pinball recently and wanted to put up a few pics of it. This is a really cool throw back pinball to the 60’s style “make your best shots on the way down” style pinballs. The machine was created by STERN and has all digital components which should make it pretty reliable. We really enjoyed working on it and testing it out afterwards. We recommend trying to find one near you if you can just to check it out. Dirty Donnie did the artwork and Red Fang did the soundtrack.

Plunger issue

Saturday, March 11th, 2017

We went to work on a Pinball that was having quite a few issues, but the biggest complaint was the fact that the ball was hard to get into play. We replaced the coil for the shooter lane and noticed that the springs seemed a little weak. It wasn’t until we pulled the plunger apart that we saw just how bad they were. The top springs in both pictures were the ones we took out of the machines. After the repair, the plunger worked like magic…..Pinball machines work better with a good plunger……. go figure!

Funny Repair

Monday, March 6th, 2017

So I regularly scratch my head when doing some repairs, but no repair on a Pinball or Arcade Game recently has been this much of a “What the heck?” moment! I got a call from a customer stating that their pinball machine was unable to take any quarters, but the bill acceptor was working perfectly. I went into the repair thinking that there was just a regular jam on both sides. What I found was pretty wild! The left coin slot was jammed with a Canadian coin as I find in many of these instances. The right side however….. well take a look at the pictures below. Keep in mind that there is a bill acceptor installed in this pinball a mere 4-5 inches from the coin slot. I was speechless!

The victim, the right side coin slot. Can you see the problem yet?

Black Jack Fix

Saturday, February 25th, 2017

This Black Jack pinball by Bally was really a find when the customer bought it and up until recently it worked great. Unfortunately it had some board issues that were just not improving. As with many pinball machines from this era, corrosion had taken hold. We are so glad when folks call us to get their machines fixed and as you can see, this pinball was definitely worth saving.

JOKERZ!

Monday, February 13th, 2017

We repair ALOT of pinball machines, but when an old favorite rolls through, it is pretty special. This Williams JOKERZ pinball machine is one of those games. It had a huge problem with the power supply and that was causing some issues so we repaired it and WOW did things start working great again. Pinball machines are such great hobby and to get a sometimes overlooked pinball machine repaired again is truly a pleasure.

To Boldly Fix!

Saturday, January 28th, 2017

We had the great opportunity to save another machine that really was worth the effort. This Bally Star Trek pinball machine was in great shape physically, but the electronics were toast. While the great storm of 2017 raged and basically shut Portland down, we had the time to go through and get this one working again. We would recommend finding one of these to anyone who is looking for a really fun first pinball. The game is pretty deep for a one ball machine and the Star Trek theme just adds to the collector value of the game. Live Long and Pinball!

H.U.O. machines are A.W.E.S.O.M.E!!!

Tuesday, January 10th, 2017

H.U.O. means Home Use Only. Most machines in the pinball (and arcade game) world are purchased to be put into an arcade or bar and make money for the owner. Very, very few examples exist of pinballs that went from the distributor straight to a home environment. What this means is that a H.U.O. machine does not have to put up with the abuse of arcade/bar play, they are typically not turned on all the time, and most importantly, they do not have even close to the number of plays that a commercial use machine would have. Generally they are taken better care of as well and this 1993 Bally “Judge Dredd” is no different. It is absolutely immaculate, everything is there, and it plays perfectly. The customer even had the topper for the machine which , needless to say, is pretty hard to come by. Check out the pictures below of a really cool machine in remarkable condition.
