Dikembe Mutombo’s 4 1/2 Weeks to Save the World …… for Friendship!

Wednesday, August 16th, 2017

All we can say is wow! This is a really cool mock-up that made its way to our local distributor for some modifications. It was originally just an internet game from Old Spice, but someone decided to up the ante and make a full size arcade game. We had a blast playing it and have always loved the sense of humor that Old Spice uses in their commercials. Arcade games come and go…… Pong, Space Invaders,  Asteroids, Defender, Pac-man, Ms. Pacman, Galaga, Robotron…… and…… Dikembe Mutombo’s 4 1/2 weeks to Save the World for Friendship!  Haha!

Sometimes a temporary fix is what just what you need…….. until the new part arrives.

Tuesday, August 1st, 2017

We had a pinball repair come up for a Stern SHREK machine recently that had a bad drop target. We carry all the parts for drop targets….. except for this oddball! When we found the culprit, it ended up being a broken ledge in the drop target channel and we knew right away that this would have to wait until parts arrived. In order to get the customer up and running we employed a temporary fix on the pinball using….. electrical tape. While we try to be prepared for all issue with pinball machines. sometimes we run into things that are not possible to predict. Luckily for those occasions…… there is tape. By the way, this could have been the permanent fix because it worked so well, but we would rather fix things the right way! Haha!

Rare Operation Thunder in INCREDIBLE condition!

Friday, July 21st, 2017

Gottlieb did not make a ton of games and some of the ones from the early 90’s are extremely hard to find. This one is an Operation Thunder of which there were only about 2500 made. What makes this one even more rare is the fact that the owner has kept in incredible condition. It only had a flipper and saucer issue that were easily fixed. I love my job!

Finally got another one!

Thursday, July 13th, 2017

We had to get rid of our Home Use Only Ms Pacman / Galaga Reunion machine a few years ago and have missed it ever since. When we came across this one, we were so happy to get another. It is in amazing shape and actually has fewer plays on it than our original machine! Ms. Pac-man and Galaga are just great games and this machine faithfully reproduces them and has new controls with digital components! Also, through a series of moves with the joystick at startup, you can play regular Pac Man!

The right way to do things…… and the wrong way

Friday, June 30th, 2017

In repairing pinballs, there are some rules you want to follow and one of them is…… DO NOT try to modify the coils. Here is an example on a Pinbot of what can happen if one were to make their own diode bridge on a flipper coil. As you can see the coil clearly is shot and this was due to the fact it only had one diode across the terminals. This is a HUGE mistake since the coil actually needs two. You can see the damage it also did to the end of stroke switch which actually has melted plastic from the coil on it. Fortunately, the fuse that cuts off power to the flippers when something bad happens did its job and blew which saved countless other components. Pin-bot will be back in action, but this could have been a very costly repair.

The culprit, one diode, where there should be two. The top lug has actually burned off the wire to the windings.

So we did a repair on a Star Wars arcade machine and it was nearly impossible to tell why the machine was having the issues it was exhibiting. When we took apart the controller, nothing jumped out at us. The gear looked fine until we took it off and it literally started falling to pieces. Here are a couple of pictures of the gears. Star Wars can now continue to rule the galaxy!

Pole Position Awesomeness!

Monday, May 22nd, 2017

We just got this one in from a friend that we used to work with and can’t wait to get it to 100% again. The electronics are all ready to go after a few hours of work….. now we just have to put the cabinet back together! Pole Position is a game that still holds up amazingly well despite being 35 years old now. This machine is the harder to find cockpit version and it comes with a Pole Position II boardset which has 4 tracks to pick from instead of just 1. We feel like we are ready to take the actual Fuji race track in Japan!

Welcome to Xenon!

Friday, May 5th, 2017

Here are a couple of pictures of another Xenon that we brought back to life. The power was shot to the point of the traces coming off of the board, the solenoid driver board had so many bad parts on it, we lost track….. and finally, the sound card was shot. We went through and replaced the components this time rather that fixing them due to the extent of the issues and it turned out fabulous! After all was said and done with our repairs, we only had to exchange 3 bulbs in the entire machine! Gorgeous cabinet and playfield too!!!

Side Project Pacman Coolness

Wednesday, April 19th, 2017

We had the opportunity to work on a Pacman cocktail arcade game and it turned out really nice! The power supply, main PCB (Turbo Pac-man version) and CRT all had issues. We fixed the issues and cleaned it up and got Pacman eating again! Here are some pics.
